Martin Bandyke on Joshua Davis

In 2015, Michigan native Joshua Davis was one of the finalists on NBC’s “The Voice,” impressing millions of viewers with his soothing, inspiring, and very assured performances. A longtime roots music singer-songwriter and former leader of the band Steppin’ In It, Josh performs at Bank of Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch concert series on Thursday, August 4th.

“My sound is rooted in the folk tradition,” Davis explains, “but it’s not folk music. Terms like Americana, roots rock, and heartland rock come up, but there’s so much more to it than that. I’m not a purist: I play with that American folk lineage, I play with those metaphors.” Davis’ stint on “The Voice” most definitely raised his profile, and the music that he currently plays is just as true and earnest as when he started performing over a decade and a half ago.

A man with a soulful, stirring voice, Joshua Davis takes the Liberty Plaza stage at noon on August 4 as part of the ninth season of Sonic Lunch. — Martin Bandyke, ann arbor’s 107one
