Detroit’s Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. wowed the crowds at last year’s Sonic Lunch, and we can’t wait to see them again this Thursday.
This eclectic indie-pop/folk/electronica group started as a basement recording project between Joshua Epstein and Daniel Zott, without any real hopes of ever performing in front of live audiences. Their rise from a basement experiment to media curiosity to notoriety among the late night talk show circuit was as unexpected and delightful as their shows, which meld their quirky theatrics and danceable pop blend into an unrelentingly joyous live experience.
And while they have no official affiliation with NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., (the name was suggested to the pair as a joke), he IS a fan of the band, according to ESPN. The group e-mailed him to assure him they were not making fun of him and sent him a few samples of their music.
Check them out for yourself as you watch the video for their latest single, “If You Didn’t See Me (Then You Weren’t On The Dancefloor)”.
